Minnesota family finding ways to reduce the costs of raising their livestock by raising more of their own proteins and nitrogens. This edible field pea crop produced about 70 bushels per acre in the fall of 2008. Wayne says, "we grind the edible peas and feed them to the hogs raw. We substitute peas for some of the soybean meal. The peas are 23 to 24% protein."
