ROI and Test Plots
In the article "Why You'll Grow Corn Differently: ROI" in the Winter, 2023 edition of The Growers Solution, we discussed the importance of a farm strip trial to evaluate the profitability of various practices. Since 1955, Growers Mineral, Corp. has suggested to farmers that to evaluate GMS of The Growers Program, the farm needs to put in comparison plots and to yield check to verify profitable results.
So, it was with great interest we read the article "Why Test Plots are Worth Effort" on www.farmprogress.com on January 23, 2023. The farmers featured in this article make test plots part of their normal farming practices. They contend that high tech planters help make plots easier to run today. Yet, they realize it takes extra time to switch practices and make sure everything is recorded correctly. However, their conclusion of the article was, "You can read about it, but to be sure, you need to test it on your farm and measure the results."
In 1966, Dr. V.A. Tiedjens told farmers that, if you had to apply statistical analysis to your test strip results to figure out if your treatment had a profitable ROI, then you needed to look for a better treatment. In other words, if your treatment did not make you a lot more money than what the treatment cost, junk that treatment and look for something better at creating ROI.
